OverviewResearch Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.At Microsoft's Applied Sciences Group, we've incubated multiple new computing form factors, including the Surface Pro 2-in-1 laptop, Surface Hub collaboration devices, and many other devices. We are now looking to continue this innovative work, particularly with a focus on the new interactions enabled by recent advances in large language models (LLMs) and other large artificial intelligence (AI)/ machine learning (ML) models. We are seeking interns who are passionate about the transformative possibilities that AI/ML technologies offer for creating next-generation Natural User Interactions (NUI). As an intern, you will work alongside world-class multidisciplinary engineers and researchers to conceptualize and prototype novel ways of engaging with devices. You will be given all the resources and opportunities to think creatively about all the ways AI can reshape our interactions with technology in the future and explore ways to validate these ideas today. ResponsibilitiesResearch Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world's best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Research Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer. Additional ResponsibilitiesInvestigate, leverage and implement the latest trends and advancements in AI/ML technologies to identify opportunities for innovative Natural User Interactions (NUI)Design and build prototypes to test and demonstrate new interaction concepts, utilizing a variety of tools and platforms relevant to AI/MLMaintain detailed documentation of research findings, design iterations, and testing results to contribute to project reports and presentations (and even patent fillings)
