Synopsis of Role:

The Faculty Member is responsible for the success and proper delivery of the assigned Stratford University academic program courses. Specific responsibilities will include enhancing the University's standing as a provider of degree granting related curriculum and the development of new curriculum. The Faculty Member is expected to work collaboratively with the Program Director/Department Chair, Campus President, Deans, admissions and academic support programs to facilitate student success and strengthen the reputation of the university by promoting excellence through curriculum development and instructional delivery. The lab coordinator is responsible to tutor or supervise students and coordinate the work of other personnel. The lab coordinator assures that the lab facilities are clean, safe, and organized. The lab coordinator also develops simulated learning experiences that promote learning of clinical reasoning. Faculty members are expected to provide systematic, meaningful classroom /clinical instruction that result in measurable student learning, retention and placement Active participation in departmental, campus and college committees is required.

This role does require the Faculty to maintain a course load of at least two courses per term. They are provided a relief for the third and fourth course to focus on the Simulation Lab Coordinator aspect of the position.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads the integration of simulation/instructional technologies throughout each campus nursing leadership and faculty.
  • Facilitates and monitors electronic and simulation needs; provides recommendations; provides compliance in collaboration with Finance for the purchasing of required items for program technology.
  • Uses evidence-based models to design, implement, evaluate, and standardize educational programs for faculty/staff development in the use of clinical simulation, debriefing, and assessment.
  • Mentors faculty, clinicians, and staff in the design of curriculum involving clinical simulation.
  • Direct faculty and staff on logistics of operations, including, but not limited to, scheduling of standardized exams.
  • Institutes continuous quality improvement strategies for simulation program improvement.
  • Inspires the advancement in technology.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop simulation scenarios that reflect current practices in nursing and healthcare.
  • Provide engaging and motivating instruction through face to face, online and hybrid modes of delivery
  • Teach online, face to face or in a hybrid format on the days and times assigned
  • Participate in the development, evaluation and revision of the curriculum in collaboration with program directors
  • Deliver the curriculum as developed by faculty and university deans
  • Develop, update and maintain syllabi based upon the approved curriculum.
  • Introduce hybrid components with threaded discussions through MOODLE
  • Assist in the selection of course materials, library holdings, instructional equipment and educational resources
  • Promote student success by engaging students in the learning process
  • Utilize appropriate library resources and educational technology to enhance student learning
  • Maintain class schedules and instructional integrity through adherence to lesson plans
  • Ensure positive student outcomes through continuing assessment of student learning
  • Conduct on-going assessment of student progress
  • Accommodate students special needs and/or those who are undergoing unique circumstances and reach out to at risk students
  • Facilitate student retention and placement through positive student interactions
  • Reach out to students on a weekly basis to ensure that they are engaged and progressing academically
  • Work as a member of the campus placement team to ensure that students are prepared for employment upon completion of academic program
  • Include and integrate community resources into the curriculum and the classroom activities
  • Act as the academic advisor for assigned students and effectively advise and assist students in assigned academic program
  • Remain current in specialized discipline through continuing education and professional development implemented in approved Annual Faculty Development Plan
  • Participate in university wide activities for students, faculty and the community such as new student orientation, open houses, graduation exercises, faculty meetings and faculty education programs, including graduation ceremonies
  • Maintain appropriate records related to students, attendance, grades, and other documents and insure delivery to the appropriate academic administrator in a timely manner
  • Adhere to all administrative requirements for the position of faculty
  • Serve on committees, ensuring faculty voices are heard in local decision-making
  • Participation in maintaining courses and programs curriculum that is current to meet the needs of the communities we serve and local businesses who hire our graduates
  • Continuous contributions to the advancement of innovation in the classroom.
  • Participate in planning, scheduling and curriculum development, interdisciplinary functions
  • Will uphold high ethical standards when conducting business regarding all students, but especially with special student populations to include international students and students on SAP
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • Earned master's degree in nursing
  • Teaching experience in the content area assigned
  • Hold an unencumbered RN license in Virginia or equivalent compact state licensure
  • Maintain professional competence through such activities as nursing practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing.
  • Record of successful working relationships with internal and external constituencies, including faculty, students, alumni, and the larger professional management community
  • Ability to work with external constituencies including business and industrial partners
  • Proven experience as an instructor, teacher, professor, or faculty member within the Higher Education setting; or substantial education with industry experiences in area of study.
  • Teaching, research, and community service experience
  • Maintaining appropriate credentials as required by accrediting bodies of Stratford University and Programmatic Accreditors
